AI Build Sanity Check

Run a local, read-only scan for six defined unfinished-work signals, with rule, severity, file, line, and a plain fix for every match.

Format: Agent skill, not a browser app. You need an AI agent that can load its instructions and use the required tools.

Package requirements: Python 3 with the standard library and local read access to the folder you choose. The documented scanner does not install dependencies, start your app or access the network.

You get: Findings with file, line, rule ID, severity and a generic explanation. Matched source lines and values are not printed.

Your first useful result

Try the supplied risky example first, then check a copy of the code you want reviewed.

Show the first-run walkthrough
  1. Prepare. Keep the complete package together, including references and fixtures. You need Python 3. Open a terminal in the package folder. Start with the fictional fixture, not your whole computer or a folder containing secrets.
  2. Run from the package folder.
    python scripts/scan_ai_build_sanity.py fixtures/risky-sample
  3. Review the output. The archived v1.0.0 example returns 11 findings: 10 classified as deterministic by the script and one advisory. Exit code 1 means findings were found, not that the scanner crashed. Findings identify file, line, rule and a generic explanation; they do not print matched source lines. Running the same command against fixtures/clean-sample returns zero findings and exit code 0.

The scanner can read .env files in its selected scope and silently skips nonexistent paths. Use a prepared source-only copy, check that the intended files exist, and do not treat a zero-findings result as proof of coverage or release readiness. No automatic fixes are applied.

Archived v1.0.0 script verified against its sealed-package receipt and tested on Windows Python 3.12.14; both included regression checks passed. This does not establish the bytes delivered by every marketplace or automatic agent-host installation.

Prefer to ask your agent? Copy this starting prompt
Read this package’s SKILL.md and inspect its scanner before running it. First run the included risky and clean examples. Then ask me which local source folder may be reviewed. Do not read secrets, follow links outside that scope, run the app, install anything or modify files. Explain each finding as a review prompt, not proof that the app is broken or safe.

What it looks for

This is line- and term-based static analysis, not proof that a behavior is unfinished. The bundled Python 3 scanner is standard-library only and read-only; its findings create a review queue and do not authorize an automatic rewrite.

Before the demo, inspect the work.

Read the film transcript

An illustrative app shows a successful receipt while an order packet fails to reach a database. The receipt lifts away to reveal a synthetic source example: an unfinished TODO, a mock return value, a route-adjacent success response and an empty catch. Findings become a review queue. The scanner does not execute the app or trace database writes, and a clean scan is not proof of completeness or security.

The synthetic worked example below uses the same four rule matches shown in the film. These are findings to review, not proof that the scanner executed the app or tested its database.

// representative example

See four findings from one supported route

This example uses the exact route, return-term, build-marker, and same-line catch forms recognized by the packaged scanner.

input.tsbefore review
export async function POST(request) {
  try {
    // TODO: replace demo response with database write
    return Response.json({ ok: true, orderId: "mock-123" });
  } catch (error) {}
}
review queueread-only
  • ABS001TODO matches a configured build-marker term.
  • ABS002The return line contains the configured fake-data term mock.
  • ABS005The return line contains ok near a supported route marker.
  • ABS003The same-line empty catch matches the swallowed-error form.

Supported application files

The scanner reads .py, .js, .ts, .jsx, .tsx, .html, .json, .env, and files named .env inside the selected paths. Because .env is included, scope the run away from it if you do not want that file read.

Where it helps

How to run

Get it on Agensi and use an agent that reads SKILL.md, can run Python 3 locally, and can read the selected paths. Run python scripts/scan_ai_build_sanity.py <repo-or-folder>, then review deterministic and advisory findings before deciding what to change.

Read-only by design

The scanner reads supported source and configuration files without modifying or deleting them. It reports file, line, rule, severity, and a generic message—not the matched line or value. It does not install packages, start the app, write files, or call the network.

It is a heuristic scanner, not formal verification. A clean report does not guarantee logical correctness, security, real integrations, tenant isolation, production behavior, or recovery.

Use it inside a release decision

The proof-first AI-built app audit shows how to turn findings into evidence for completeness, real data, failure paths, authorization, production behavior, and rollback.

// need a reviewed release decision?

Turn this check into launch evidence.

Use this skill for the focused self-serve check. If you need one sanitized app snapshot reviewed across build, tests, data exposure, browser behavior, and recovery evidence, the Launch Evidence Review returns a checksum-pinned ledger and prioritized blockers.

// choose with context

Is AI Build Sanity Check the right skill?

Best fit

You have an AI-built codebase and want a read-only first pass for unfinished-work patterns before deeper functional testing.

It returns

Findings with file, line, rule ID, severity and a generic explanation. Matched source lines and values are not printed.

Do not use it as

Proving logical correctness, certifying security or replacing functional and authorization tests.

Questions

What does it look for?

Six defined, line-based patterns: build-marker terms, fake-data terms on return lines, specified swallowed-error forms, configured placeholders, route-adjacent canned-success returns, and advisory route-adjacent empty or throwing handlers.

Which files can it review?

.py, .js, .ts, .jsx, .tsx, .html, .json, .env, and files named .env inside the selected paths.

Will it modify my code?

No. The bundled Python 3 scanner reads supported local files and prints findings. It does not write files, install packages, start the app, or call the network.

How do I start an audit?

Use an agent that can read SKILL.md, run Python 3 locally, and read the selected paths. Run the bundled scanner on a repository, directory, or supported file, then review deterministic and advisory findings.

Does a clean report prove the app is ready to launch?

No. It is a heuristic scanner, not formal verification or a security certification. A launch decision still needs functional, negative, authorization, production, monitoring, and recovery evidence.
